Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
  • Oil for frying

Glaze Ingredients:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:

    • In a small bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a large bowl, mix sugar, melted butter, warm milk, and salt. Add eggs and the yeast mixture, and mix well.
    • Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough:

    • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the Dough Rise:

    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Donuts:

    • Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness on a floured surface. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters to cut out donut shapes and holes.
  6. Second Rise:

    • Place the cut donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30-60 minutes until puffy.
  7. Fry the Donuts:

    • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts, a few at a time, for about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  8. Glaze the Donuts:

    • In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip the warm donuts in the glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Place on a wire rack to set.
