Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
- Oil for frying
Glaze Ingredients:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix sugar, melted butter, warm milk, and salt. Add eggs and the yeast mixture, and mix well.
- Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Knead the Dough:
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let the Dough Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
Shape the Donuts:
- Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness on a floured surface. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters to cut out donut shapes and holes.
Second Rise:
- Place the cut donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30-60 minutes until puffy.
Fry the Donuts:
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts, a few at a time, for about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Glaze the Donuts:
- In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip the warm donuts in the glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Place on a wire rack to set.
